As much as I admire and respect Ranieri I think his departure has been inevitable for some time. The big question was ‘would the club summon up the courage to act in the interests of their Premier League status before it was too late?’

If you look at the form book, Ranieri has taken 5 points from the last 10 games whereas Nigel Pearson accumulated 22 points from his final 10. Some argue Ranieri presided over a continuation of the good form Leicester had put together the season before their epic title win.

It’s sad in many ways but the jury’s still out on whether it should have happened sooner. I guess we’ll find out in May.
